Works begin at King's Theatre as landmark restoration project gets underway
Scaffolding is up, and the transformation has begun. Works have officially commenced at King's Theatre, Portsmouth, marking a major milestone in the restoration and redevelopment of one of Southsea's most beloved historic buildings.
The project will see the theatre's elegant Victorian frontage repaired and conserved and the ornate glazed tile portico on the northern elevation, propped for over 15 years, will at last receive the restoration it deserves. However, this is about more than conservation. Behind the restored shopfronts, a brand-new contemporary bar and foyer space will be created. The glulam-framed, top-lit double-height space has been designed to become a social hub for audiences and a welcoming public space throughout the day.
We've worked with the client from the start to procure the main contractor, and we're now on site, overseeing construction and delivery, bringing specialist expertise to ensure this complex and ambitious programme is delivered to the highest standard. More updates soon.
