Our Role

The project delivered a new-build theatre incorporating the conversion of the existing Tara Studio into an outstanding 100-seat producing theatre with rehearsal, workshop and support facilities.

It created a unique, culturally inclusive venue supporting diverse audiences and creative exchange. Facilities were designed to support children’s theatre, community engagement and commercial performance activity alongside professional production use.

The project achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating and incorporated a focused package of environmental improvements, including:

• Photovoltaic panels

• Rainwater harvesting systems

• Green roof installations

These measures were integrated to enhance long-term environmental performance while maintaining cost and operational efficiency.

This project delivered a new-build, high-quality producing venue and permanent home for Tara Arts, a diverse-led theatre group with a strong focus on inclusivity, sustainability and community engagement.

Appointed as Project Manager, Employer’s Agent, Contract Administrator and Quantity Surveyor, we provided full project and cost management services throughout the lifecycle of the project.

The scheme was subject to extensive legal and technical requirements, including Network Rail approvals and 11 party wall agreements, requiring careful coordination and stakeholder management throughout design and construction.

Our role included securing Arts Council England Stage 2 funding and developing and implementing a robust fundraising strategy to support successful project delivery.

The success of any building project depends on having a good Project Manager. So, I was both delighted and consider myself fortunate, to have secured the services of Cragg Management when leading on the renovation of Tara Theatre from 2012 to 2016.

Nick Cragg unfailingly provided an empathetic interface between my vision for Tara Theatre and the varying demands others had in bring it to life - from architects and contractors, to local authorities and funders. Any building project is fraught; Cragg Management, by assuming the burden of worry, made renovation for me an enjoyable and exciting experience.
