Programme

Description

Restoration and refurbishment of the Grade I listed De La Warr Pavilion, one of the UK’s most important Modernist buildings, delivering new gallery, performance, learning and hospitality spaces. Works were carefully designed to preserve and enhance the building for future generations whilst improving its durability in a harsh coastal environment. The project included the construction of two new satellite pavilions, sensitively integrated into the historic setting.

Our role

We were appointed as Project Manager, Project Cost Manager, Contract Administrator and Quantity Surveyor, providing full project and cost management services throughout design and construction phases. The project was delivered using a traditional procurement route.

Scope and Outcomes

·         Restoration and refurbishment of a Grade I listed Modernist building

·         Sympathetic repair and renewal of external fabric including full replacement of south-facing windows and repainting of the entire building

·         Internal renovation of gallery, auditorium, entrance, foyer and café/bar areas

·         Creation of new temporary gallery spaces

·         Construction of two satellite pavilions providing dance, performance, back of house and office facilities

·         Pavilions partially excavated to sit discreetly within the historic setting

·         Conservation and renewal of a nationally significant building for future generations

·         Improved durability and performance in a harsh marine environment

·         Strengthened long-term cultural, educational and commercial sustainability
