Project Details:
A National Lottery Heritage funded single storey, low energy and low maintenance building of contemporary design. A mixture of modern and traditional materials will give it a long life within the demise of a Scheduled Ancient Monument and including restoration of the landscaping and external areas. The new Museum provides a purpose built gallery for the public display of the collection along with excellent areas for storage and conservation.
The Society underwent extensive recording and conservation of the collection to inform the museum design. A multi-purpose education room allows the delivery of the exciting new activity plan which builds on the popular original education programme. This includes volunteering opportunities, guided tours of the town, formal learning and links to local schools as well as informal learning and access for researchers.
